Simple Tips to Improve Your Website!

So, you decided to design your website on Wix? Great choice! But wait... there’s a chance you might be falling into some of the common traps that could turn your new website into a place where your potential clients get lost rather than engaged. In this post, I’m going to tell you about the most common mistakes everyone (yes, everyone!) makes, and how to stop making them before your site scares off more customers than it attracts. Ready to dive in?

  • Overloading Your Site (or the Opposite—Too Minimalist!)

    The Mistake

You’ve got a million ideas for your design. Pictures of your business, flashy icons, big headlines, videos of your business and satisfied clients but wait, that’s a bit too much... When a page looks like a visual rave party, your customers won’t know where to look first. On the other hand, if your design is too minimalist, your site might look like a empty notebook page.

    How to Avoid It

Find a balance. Pick only the best ingredients and use them wisely. Ask yourself at each phase if each element truly adds value. A clean, focused design will help your customers understand what you’re offering without overwhelming them. The rule of thumb: if it’s not necessary, don’t add it.

  • Falling in Love with the Design and Forgetting the Content

    The Mistake

You’ve designed a site that looks like it belongs in a art museum. Nice! But... what are you actually selling here? Always remember the 5 second rule - If your customers can’t figure out within five seconds what is it you do or why they need you, they’ll probably move on to the next site. No offense, of course!

    How to Avoid It

Think of your website as a conversation with your customer: you need to be clear, concise, and to the point. Use precise headlines, clear texts, and most importantly—tell your customers what you want them to do (buy a service, contact you, or even just send you a heart emoji). Without clear content, even the most beautiful site won’t do the job.

  • Attention to Optimizing for Mobile

The Mistake You did all the work on your laptop, and the site looks fantastic on the big screen. Then you open it on your phone and... oops! Text is flying off the screen, buttons are too small, and images won’t load. Your customers bail before they even get to the "Contact Us" button.

How to Avoid It Check, check, and check again! Make sure how your site looks on mobile. Remember: many of your customers will be browsing on their smartphones (especially while checking you out in line for coffee), so it’s crucial your site is beautiful and easy to use on mobile, too.

  • From Static to Dynamic

The Mistake Many freelancers and small businesses create static websites that rarely change, thinking it's a one-and-done solution. However, this approach can lead to stagnant online presence, poor search engine rankings, and missed opportunities to engage with potential clients.

How to Avoid It Avoid treating your website as a digital business card that you set up once and forget. Instead, start a blog, Update your services or promotions you may offer or set a monthly reminder to review and refresh your content. This approach keeps your site current, improves search rankings, and shows potential clients your business is active and evolving.

  • Complicating the User Experience

The Mistake I see this all the time! You’ve got a "Contact Us" button, but where is it? Oh, you have to scroll for half an hour to find it. The messages are confusing, and the navigation is confusing. If your customers can't understand how to reach you, they’ll probably give up quickly.

How to Avoid It Make their lives easier! Your customers want information quickly and with minimal effort. Ensure that navigation is clear and simple, buttons appear in logical places, and that they know exactly how to find what they need.

As you can see, all these mistakes can be easily fixed, and with a bit of attention, you’ll see how your website can transform from a confusing maze into a powerful business.
